Langholm Mountain Biking

Project type

Short documentary

Date

May 2026

Location

Langholm

How do we build a sustainable future for rural transport? By letting the next generation lead the conversation.

Across nine communities in Dumfries and Galloway, Moving Stories has been working with local groups, creative practitioners, and partners to develop place-specific creative interventions. These projects respond directly to how and why people already move through their towns and landscapes.

Because these interventions are shaped by local context, each one reflects the unique routes, services, and networks people use every day. They create highly visible moments that connect everyday journeys to the wider transport improvements happening across the region.

Partnering with the Xcel Project and TREUN Media House, local young mountain bikers used film and photography to showcase their culture, skills, and deep connection to the landscape. The project highlighted three core pillars:

Ownership & Impact: How trail-building fosters community pride.

Environmental Respect: Preserving the natural spaces we share.

Future Infrastructure: The economic and social potential of mountain biking in Langholm.

The Langholm project highlights how creative engagement can support young people to express their identity, build confidence, and develop a deeper connection to place through active travel.
